Aveso’s Display-Enabled Smart Cards

While people have been worrying about being subjected to implanted chips containing their personal information, Aveso, a maker of ultra-thin printed electronic displays, has come up with a more interesting solution: a smart card with a display.

These cards can be used for banking, contactless payment, giftcards, healthcare, and probably other applications such as security. Like the Mondex smartcards that were tried in the early 1990s, these do have RFID circuits. However, with a display area and with password protection, these are a few steps above.

The displays also have uses in package labelling and even wearable displays for defense applications.
